christmas day flood. cbs 5 reporter is in east pal alto where people spent the evening sandbagging around their homes. >> reporter: that's right. and right behind me is the levy where crews are hard at work, reeling in the truckloads of sandbags, gearing up for more rain tomorrow. while most people spend christmas eve stacking presents under the tree. some east pal alto residence spent their night sandbagging. in preparation of more rain. >> and we are just packing up the sand. >> reporter: sunday monday, they spilled over the levy, cutting the neighborhood between daphne way. >> and we were swarmed with so much water last night. you had to run out. >> reporter: they are several evacuees. >> how is this affecting your christmas? horrible. just horrible. and they sets back. >> reporter: he could not do any last-minute shopping, spending the night with his eight kids in his car. a block away, things are getting back to normal in that home as they were evacuated, thankful that their house was not damaged. >> it was like up this high as we were afraid that they would go in there and when we g

it will overflow again. cbs 5 reporter is in east pal alto where a flood on sunday night pretty much ruined their holidays. >> reporter: last night they stacked these sandbags to protect homes in this neighborhood. today they have stayed pretty low. people tell me that they are taking the threat of another flood very seriously. >> it has been a crazy couple of days. >> reporter: a crazy couple of days for people that live in this east palo alto neighborhood. water seeped flu the levy as homes were evacuated. >> and we had to leave everything behind. >> reporter: christmas eve residence returned while the crews with the city and the california conservation core work on the night for repair. by christmas day hundreds lined the levy as more rain set in. even more sandbags were seen stacked outside of homes mixed in with the holiday decoration. >> we knew high tide was coming. >> kids didn't wake up in the morning thinking that they would have to help their parents clean out their front yards and, you know, clean up the cars. they wanted to go outside to play with their gifts. >> re

a $1,000 reward. reporting from san francisco, patrick sedieio, cbs 5. >> isn't that awful? a vigil was held last night at walnut creek for a young man shot and killed during a confrontation with police earlier this week. the vigil was held outside of the hair salon where he worked. the police were called to an apartment early thursday where a woman said that banta was attacking his roommate. the police say he was armed with a knife and that they were forced to shoot. friends and family say that banta was a gentle person who must have suffered a breakdown. >> and we just don't understand how someone could have taken his life. i am sure that something happened. but how -- someone could take, he is small in stature. 5'4", 130 pounds. how threatening is that? >> family members say police have not shared any information with them about banta's death. the officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave during the investigation. >>> this morning, negotiators in the senate are still trying to forge a last-minute compromise to save all americans from a tax hook, but a cbs
